Gigabit Ethernet, providing the speeds of 1000 Mbps, is able to boost performance while increasing the return on existing infrastructure investments. The workers today are placing higher demands on networks, running multiple, concurrent applications. The Cisco Catalyst 3560 series switches provide a means to intelligently scale the network beyond 100 Mbps over existing Category 5 copper cabling and have SFP ports supporting different fiber optic transceivers to achieve optical transmission. Cisco Catalyst 3560 series switches have various models, such as Cisco Catalyst 3560-8PC, Cisco Catalyst 3560-12PC and Cisco Catalyst 3560-24TS, etc. This article will focus on the fiber optic transceivers supported for Cisco Catalyst 3560-24TS switch.
Cisco Catalyst 3560-24TS Switch Overview
The Cisco Catalyst 3560-24TS switch has two part numbers. One is WS-C3560-24TS-S, and the other is WS-C3560-24TS-E. The similarities and differences of the two are described below.
|Product Name||Part Number||Description|
From the table above, we can see that WS-C3560-24TS-S is available in SMI, while WS-C3560-24TS-E is available in EMI. The SMI feature set includes advanced QoS (quality of service), rate limiting, ACLs (access control list), and basic static and RIP (routing information protocol) routing functionality. The EMI provides a richer set of enterprise-class features, including advanced hardware-based IP unicast and IP multicast routing, as well as PBR (policy-based routing). Both of them have 24 Ethernet 10/100 ports and 2 SFP-based Gigabit Ethernet ports in 1 rack unit. The 10/100 ports on the switch are grouped in pairs. The first member of the pair (port 1) is above the second member (port 2) on the left. Ports 3 is above port 4, and so on. The SFP module slots are numbered 1 and 2 (see the picture below). The 10/100 ports can be set to operate in any combination of half duplex, full duplex, 10 Mb/s, or 100 Mb/s. Supporting 6.5 Mpps (million pulses per second) and 45W maximum rated power supply, the Cisco Catalyst 3560-24TS is suitable for networks requiring low-density access, Layer 2+ features with optional advanced IP routing, and one or more fiber uplinks.
Fiber Optic Transceivers Supported for Cisco Catalyst 3560-24TS Switch
The SFP-based Gigabit Ethernet ports accommodate a range of SFP transceivers, which include the Cisco 1000BASE-T, 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX, 1000BASE-ZX and CWDM SFP transceivers. The details of these fiber optic transceivers are described in the following chart.

The Cisco Catalyst 3560-24TS switch uses Gigabit Ethernet SFP modules to establish fiber optic and 1000BASE-T connections. These transceiver modules are field-replaceable, and provide uplink interfaces when inserted in an SFP module slot. All of these fiber optic transceivers can be found in Fiberstore with high quality and competitive price. Moreover, most of them have adequate inventory, which ensures the customers to enjoy same day shipping.
