Introduction to Cisco IE 5000 Series Switches

The Cisco IE 5000 series switches include two kinds. One is IE-5000-12S12P-10G and another is IE-5000-16S12P. Each one has four 10 Gigabit or 1 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks and 24 Gigabit Ethernet downlinks. They can provide superior bandwidth and capacity to meet your growing network needs, as they offer high performance nonblocking switch capacity with 24 Gigabit Ethernet downlink ports and four 10 Gigabit or four 1 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports.

Note: Uplinks ports can run at 1 Gigabit Ethernet or 10 Gigabit Ethernet mode depending on the SFP or SFP+ inserted.

With up to 12 PoE or PoE+ enabled multispeed ports, the switches allow easy installation and removing of devices as needed without an overhaul of the electrical layout. By providing superior high-bandwidth switching (Layer 2) and proven IOS (Internet Work Operating System)-based routing (Layer 3) line rate aggregation and copper Power over Ethernet (PoE) connectivity, the switches can withstand extreme environments while adhering to overall IT network design, compliance, and performance requirements. These switches are highly secure and scalable for access and aggregation layer deployments.

Optics Interconnecting Solutions for Cisco IE 5000 Series Switches

Cisco IE 5000 series switches have 1 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. So the switches can support SFP and SFP+ transceiver modules. Direct attach copper cables (DAC) like 10G SFP+ CU and 10G SFP+ ACU can be also used to support these switches for short range data transmission.
