This guide provides detailed installation steps and precautions to help users successfully install the slide-out rack mount enclosure, improving cabling efficiency and product application effectiveness.

What's a Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure

FS slide-out rack mount enclosure shall house, organize manage, and protect fiber optic cables, fiber cassettes, fiber optic panels, and splices. It has multiple sizes (1U/2U/4U) to accept 4/8/12pcs FHD® series MTP® fiber cassettes, fiber optic panels, or splice trays, providing versatility and flexibility with a fully modular solution for a variety of fiber optic patching, terminating, and splicing applications. The sliding drawer of the fiber enclosure enables it to slide to the front for maximum access to fiber connections. It can transition from backbone cabling to distribution switching, an interconnect to active equipment, or a cross-connect or interconnect in a main or horizontal distribution area in cable slide-out systems.

Structure of FS Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure

The structure of a slide-out rack mount enclosure is designed to optimize space utilization and enhance accessibility for high-density cabling environments. It features a robust outer shell typically made of durable materials like steel to provide long-term protection for sensitive fiber optic components. The fiber enclosure includes a sliding drawer mechanism that allows the internal tray to be pulled out from the front, offering easy access to the cables and components without disrupting other equipment. Inside the drawer are designated slots for mounting fiber cassettes or fiber optic panels, and integrated cable management systems such as routing guides and tie-down points to keep cables organized and maintain proper bend radii. This design not only facilitates easier installation and maintenance but also ensures the security and reliability of the network connections.

How to Install FS Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure

Generally, there are four main stages to installing a fiber enclosure in cable slide-out systems. Following these steps, you can effectively install an FS slide-out rack mount enclosure, ensuring reliable and organized fiber optic cable management.

Installing Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure on Rack

Installing a slide-out rack mount enclosure on a rack involves a few straightforward steps to ensure secure and efficient placement. First, attach the mounting brackets to each side of the enclosure. Next, determine the appropriate position on the rack where the enclosure will be installed, taking into account the entry point and installation orientation based on your cabling setup. Align the fiber enclosure mounting brackets with the rack's mounting holes and secure the enclosure in place using screws or other provided fasteners. The picture offers detailed installation instructions.

Installing Fiber Cassette/Panel Inside Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure

Installing a fiber cassette or fiber optic panel inside a slide-out rack mount enclosure involves a few key steps to ensure a secure and efficient setup. First, remove protective covers or packaging and prepare the fiber cassettes or panels. Slide the prepared cassettes or panels into the designated slots within the fiber enclosure, ensuring they are properly aligned. Secure them in place using the provided locking mechanisms or screws to prevent movement. The enclosure's slide-out feature allows easy access to these components, facilitating straightforward installation and future maintenance.

Introducing Fiber Optic Cable into Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure

Introducing fiber optic cable into a slide-out rack mount enclosure involves carefully guiding the cables to maintain their integrity and performance. Start by identifying the entry point on the fiber enclosure, which is typically designed to minimize sharp bends and protect the cables. Gently feed the fiber optic cables through this entry point, ensuring they follow the integrated routing guides to maintain proper bend radius and avoid kinks. Secure the wires using tie-down points or cable management features within the enclosure to keep them organized and prevent movement. This meticulous process helps protect the fiber optic cables from physical damage and signal loss, ensuring reliable network performance.

Routing Fiber Optic Cable Inside Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure

As the sliding drawer can be pulled out from the fiber enclosure, the cable trunk length left in the slide-out rack mount enclosure should be longer than that left in a fixed fiber enclosure. To ensure the complete loop of individual fibers around the spools and ensure that the fiber optic cable won’t be under tension after the sliding drawer is fully extended, enough cable length and jacketed slack should be left in the slide-out rack mount enclosure. Generally, the cable length between points A and B should be around 31 inches, as shown in the following picture. After the fiber cable trunk is well secured by cable tie, the routing of the individual breakout fibers can be started. Connect the individual pre-terminated fibers to the fiber adapter panels and ensure they are connected to the right ports. Then connect fiber optic cables to the fiber optic panels on the front panel through bend radius control clips. During this process, maintain a proper patch cord bend radius.

Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure Installation Precautions

When installing a slide-out rack mount enclosure, it’s crucial to follow specific precautions to ensure a smooth installation and maintain the integrity of the fiber optic network. Here are some key precautions to keep in mind:

Planning and Preparation

Determine Entry Points and Orientation: Before installation, decide on the entry points for the fiber cables and the orientation of the enclosure based on your network design and accessibility requirements.

Check Compatibility: Ensure the enclosure is compatible with your existing rack and fiber optic infrastructure.

Mounting the Slide-Out Rack Mount Enclosure

Secure Mounting Brackets: Attach the mounting brackets to the fiber enclosure securely. Loose brackets can lead to instability and potential damage.

Even Weight Distribution: Distribute the weight evenly when mounting the slide-out rack mount enclosure to prevent tilting or strain on the rack.

Cable Management

Avoid over-bending: Fiber optic cables are sensitive to bending. Ensure that cables are routed with appropriate bend radii to prevent signal loss or damage.

Strain Relief: Use strain relief mechanisms to protect cables from tension and pulling forces at entry points.

Organized Routing: Keep cables organized within the enclosure to facilitate easy access and maintenance. Use cable management features like trays and tie-downs.

Securing Fiber Cassettes/Panels

Proper Alignment: Align fiber cassettes or panels correctly with the designated slots before securing them.

Firm Securing: Use the provided screws or locking mechanisms to secure the fiber cassettes/panels firmly, preventing movement or dislodgement.

Testing and Verification

Connectivity Testing: After installation, test all fiber connections to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Check for Errors: Verify that there are no loose connections, and ensure that all components are properly seated and secured.

Conclusion

By above these steps and precautions, you can ensure a reliable and efficient installation of your slide-out rack mount enclosure, thereby maintaining the performance and longevity of your fiber optic network in cable slide-out systems.
