Network Authority A Local Area Network (LAN) is a secure and private network that can be owned by various institutions such as hospitals, schools, offices, and more.  A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) can exist as either a public or private network, and it is commonly owned by numerous businesses and telecommunications companies.  A Wide Area Network (WAN) is not typically owned exclusively by a single company. It can be either privately or publicly owned.
Bandwidth The bandwidth in LAN is very high.  In MAN, bandwidth is less. WAN bandwidth is quite limited.
Speed The Internet speed provided through LAN is fast. MAN provides a modest Internet connection speed.
WAN provides a slow Internet connection.
