As an IT engineer or administrator, you're bound to encounter network downtime problems, and many would agree that a significant portion of their time is spent troubleshooting. For businesses that operate online, every minute of downtime means disrupted customer communications and restricted employee access to cloud data, affecting productivity and potentially causing financial losses. This is where a robust tool like the AmpCon™ Controller can be invaluable. In this blog post, we will explore how to effectively use the AmpCon™ Controller for network troubleshooting, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted network operations.

What Are the Common Network Problems?

Network problems can manifest in various ways and can be due to a multitude of factors. Here are some common network issues that users and network administrators frequently encounter:

  • Slow Network Speeds: This can be caused by bandwidth congestion, outdated hardware, or misconfigured settings. Slow speeds significantly impact user productivity and efficiency, making daily tasks and communication sluggish.

  • Connectivity Issues: Intermittent or persistent connectivity problems often stem from faulty cables, weak Wi-Fi signals, or network misconfigurations. These issues disrupt communication and data transfer, causing delays and frustration.

  • Network Outages: Complete network outages can result from hardware failures, power outages, or cyber-attacks. Such outages can halt business operations, leading to lost revenue and reduced customer satisfaction.

  • Security Vulnerabilities: Unsecured networks are susceptible to cyber threats like malware, ransomware, and unauthorized access. Security breaches can lead to data loss, reputational damage, and regulatory fines, posing significant risks to the business.

The Importance of Network Troubleshooting in Modern Enterprises

Network troubleshooting is a logical process of diagnosing and resolving issues within a network to ensure its optimal performance and reliability. Troubleshooting is more effective than trying things at random until the network functions because it allows you to target individual network components, testing each for function, and encourages you to document your process.

In modern enterprises, where operations are heavily reliant on seamless digital communication and data transfer. As an organization’s technology footprint grows, its network needs will also change, and troubleshooting will become more challenging and critical. It helps minimize downtime, maintain productivity, and protect against security vulnerabilities. By promptly identifying and addressing network problems, businesses can ensure continuous operation, enhance performance, and safeguard sensitive information, thereby maintaining their competitive edge in a fast-paced digital landscape.

Meet the AmpCon™ Controller: Your Network Troubleshooting Ally

The AmpCon™ Controller is a state-of-the-art network management tool designed to simplify the process of network troubleshooting. It offers a comprehensive suite of features that enable network administrators to quickly diagnose and resolve network issues. Some key features include:

Backup and Compliance

Once the desired configurations are set and the network is stable, we would like to lock it down and make sure accidental changes don’t disrupt operations. And when a config change is made to add devices or say a VLAN, it is important to back it up. AmpCon™ automates configuration backups, operation logs, and compliance checks based on the "golden config" with intelligent rollback features to minimize errors and ensure consistency.

License Management

AmpCon™ identifies, alerts, installs, and updates switch licenses to ensure they do not negatively impact your network's performance. This means that any potential license-related issues can be detected early, thoroughly analyzed, and swiftly resolved. Whether it's conflicting licenses, expired licenses, or compatibility issues, AmpCon™ provides detailed insights and actionable solutions to maintain seamless network operations.

Switch Visibility

AmpCon™ provides a detailed inventory of all FS PicOS® switches, including hardware details, software versions, configurations, and more. It also features a network map view displaying all locations, allowing users to pull up port statistics, health checks, and real-time monitoring of network devices.

Convenient Bug Fixes

AmpCon™ enables the pushing of updates, patches, and bug fixes to a single or group of switches, saving labor, preventing downtime, and maintaining network security.

How to Troubleshoot with AmpCon™ Controller?

Issues and problems can emerge at various points throughout the network. Before initiating any troubleshooting efforts, it is crucial to gain a thorough understanding of the problem at hand. One of the most effective methods for identifying and addressing network performance disruptions and issues is through the review of logs. Logs contain detailed information about each device, application, and program within the network, providing comprehensive insights that can help trace the root cause of the problems. These logs record a wide array of system operations and events, enabling you to delve deep into the specifics of network activities. By leveraging the data contained in logs, you can diagnose troubleshooting issues more accurately, improve network stability and performance, and ensure the smooth operation of your systems.

As a network controller, AmpCon™ provides an "Operation Logs" function, allowing IT administrators to check the AmpCon™ backend logs during any specific switch deployment operation for troubleshooting purposes. This feature tracks all activities in AmpCon™, and you can see that the IT administrator logged in at a specific time before that, just like someone ran a script, all the details, who did what and when, you know it all. The specific steps are as follows.

1. Select Operation Logs > Alarms to view AmpCon™ operation errors and alerts. Alerts are color coded as follows:

• Red – needs action

• Yellow – you may want to look at it

• Green - good

2. Select Operation Logs > System Logs to view AmpCon™ audit logs as shown below. Audit logs provide info on who did what and when.

3. For troubleshooting purposes, the Backend Log will be very useful. To download Backend Log, click Export System Log button in the above UI to export the logs to your desktop as shown below.

Meanwhile, AmpCon™’s user-friendly interface makes it easy to access and interpret these logs, streamlining the troubleshooting process, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal network performance.

Conclusion

Network troubleshooting is indispensable in maintaining a robust and efficient enterprise network infrastructure. The AmpCon™ Controller stands out as a powerful tool designed to simplify this complex task. By leveraging its advanced features, network administrators can swiftly diagnose and resolve issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal network performance. Embrace the AmpCon™ Controller for your network troubleshooting needs and experience a transformation in how you manage network challenges.
