As the highly dynamic cloud data center networks is continuing to evolve, many new protocols and server technologies have been introduced, which brings ever increasing bandwidth demands and accelerate the need for dense 25 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet switching in both leaf and spine tiers of modern networks. Under this situation, FS.COM currently launches S5850/S8050/N8500 series 100gb switches including four configurations: S8050-20Q4C, S5850-48S2Q4C, N8500-48B6C and N8500-32C to meet the market demands. All the 100g switches are built for high-density performance and to satisfy the large scale data centers and enterprise applications. This article intends to explore the optics solutions for the S5850/S8050/N8500 series 100gb switches.
The S5850-48S2Q4C or the S8050-20Q4C switches are high performance Ethernet switches, coming with completely system software with comprehensive protocols and applications to facilitate rapid service deployment and management for both traditional L2/L3 networks and data center networks. As their names show, both of S5850-48S2Q4C and the S8050-20Q4C switches have 40G QSFP+ and 100G QSFP28 ports, which enable flexible choices of port speed providing unparalleled flexibility and the ability to seamlessly transition data centers to the next generation of Ethernet performance.
As shown in the following front panel map of S8050-20Q4C, there are mainly three types of ports: 10G SFP+ port, 40G QSFP+ port and 100G QSFP28 port. The 20x40G QSFP+ ports and 4x100G QSFP28 ports can provide 1.2Tbps non-blocking throughput and 1200Mpps Layer2&Layer3, data center packet forwarding rate with wire-speed for all ports.
S5850-48S2Q4C (as shown in the following picture) is another 100gb switch which has 48x10G SFP+ ports, 2x40G QSFP+ ports and 4x100G QSFP28 ports. These ports can offer 0.96Tbps non-blocking throughput and 1200Mpps Layer2 & Layer3, data center packet forwarding rate with wire-speed for all ports.
The N8500-48B6C or N8500-32C switch is a Top-of-Rack (TOR) or Leaf switch in a compact 1U form factor, ideally suited for high performance and programmable data center environments. Both of them support current and future data center requirements, including a x86-based control plane for easier integration of automation tools, an ONIE installer for 3rd party network operating systems and compatibility with Software Defined Networks via OpenFlow 1.3.11. Additionally, they support the advanced hardware based VXLAN feature to support over 16M virtual networks.
As shown below, the N8500-48B6C switch provides 48-port 25GbE SFP28 and 6-port 100GbE QSFP28. It delivers excellent low latency and power efficiency in a PHYless design, while offers high reliability such as redundant and hot swappable power supplies and fans in forward and reverse airflow configurations.
The following N8500-32C provides 32-port 100GbE QSFP28. Designed with top performance in mind, N8500-32C provides line-rate, high-bandwidth switching, filtering, and traffic queuing without delaying data. Redundant power and fans along with numerous high availability ensure that N8500-32C is always available for business-sensitive traffic.
FS.COM S5850/S8050 series 100gb switches can provide access ports for high density 10GE servers, and 40GE uplink ports to Aggregation or Core switches. Here is an enterprise data center network application. This leaf-spine network architecture consists of two S8050-20Q4C 100G switches and four S5850-48S6Q 40G switches which with 48 SFP+ ports and 6 QSFP+ ports to provide 0.72Tbps non-blocking throughput. Each leaf switch connects to every switch in the network fabric. In this application, spine switches need to have high-density port to be the core of the architecture.
FS.COM N8500 series 100gb switches can provide access ports for high density 25GE uplink ports to Aggregation or Core switches. As you can see below, N8500-32C spine switches with 32 QSFP28 ports delivers 6*100G uplink to N8500-48B6C leaf switches. The N8500-48B6C switches with 25GbE SFP28 ports and 25GbE QSFP28 thus enable 25G downlink via breakout cables.
100gb switches are becoming the new trend for big data transmission. In order to provide more convenience and good experiences, FS.COM also supplies a wide range of optical modules compatible with these switches for our customers to meet different deployment requirements.
