Klee Group 一 Ensuring Robust and Scalable Environment by OTN Flexible Ring Architecture
Overview
Klee Group is a French digital company that provides digital services and products with 34 years of experience, holding more than 500 professionals and providing enterprise information systems and information technology to companies and organizations in 32 countries. The KLEE Group hoped to build the most reliable and cost-effective transmission network between their four data centers to expand its business scope, but the power budget was insufficient due to high link loss and varied link distances. The problem mentioned above is also a common data center interconnect (DCI) challenge faced by many companies that have several data centers located in different areas to interconnect.
For this situation, FS OTN technical team immediately carried out solution innovation and design. After the assurance of various quality tests, the team designed a complete and most suitable solution for KLEE Group within four days.
Challenge
KLEE Group needed to build a transmission network between four data centers, but the distances between these data centers vary with a maximum distance of 59 kilometers. As there are several nodes in the whole link, it is inevitable to consider how to avoid insertion loss. Meanwhile, our client expects to achieve a high-reliable network and cut the budget to the lowest with the hope to get a satisfying scheme as soon as possible.
KLEE Group is an Internet service provider with rich industry experience, so they are very careful in the selection of network equipment according to performance- and cost-efficiency. Considering the link insertion loss and transmission distance, FS OTN technical team gave a solution through continuous testing and comparison.
Solution
In response to the needs of KLEE Group, FS replaced the CWDM MUX/DEMUX by deploying 40CH DWDM MUX/DEMUX to avoid excessive insertion loss as well as longer link range and further expansion. With the use of OEO, Ethernet signals are converted into corresponding wavelengths in DWDM transceivers.
For the safety of the whole link, link D and link E were designed as the backup lines of link C. Therefore, site1 and site3 are deployed in two chassis, in case of any failures, to ensure the network continuity.
Due to the power budget limitation, FS chose OADM at site2 to minimize the budget. By deploying OADM, the wavelength of link D or E could be increased or decreased without interfering with the data transmission of the link D and E. Besides, EDFAs were used to compensate for cable losses in the presence of increased fiber attenuation.

Customer Benefits
KLEE Group achieved multiple-link long-distance transmission of up to 59km between four data centers through the flexible ring solution, and a reduced power loss and certain budget was guaranteed. The optical transport solution also played a role in ensuring network security and backup.
The interconnection of the four data centers enables better data intercommunication, which can improve work efficiency and strengthen collaboration.
