Transforming to Intelligent Lossless Network with FS Solution

With the rapid growth of Internet data, enterprises are eager to achieve digital transformation. A Chinese customer of FS from the media and entertainment industry was facing problems such as packet loss and latency in data storage and expects to realize intelligent lossless networks. The FS professional technical team used a series of high-performance equipment and solution technologies to build a distributed storage system for the customer and quickly solved the performance bottleneck of the storage system.


In the media and entertainment industry, there are a large number of media file editing and storage needs. And users also have higher and higher requirements for special effects, high-definition picture quality, and lossless pictures. The main problems faced by the customer were:

  • Traditional NAS storage system had performance bottlenecks in terms of control units, metadata, and bandwidth, causing in network packet loss, delay, and low throughput, reducing business revenue.

  • The customer expected to upgrade traditional Fibre Channel storage systems and build RDMA-based intelligent lossless networks to achieve lossless Ethernet low-latency forwarding.


Facing the data storage requirements in this industry, traditional NAS storage systems have fallen out of the pace of the times. Based on this, the FS technical team first considered optimizing the network storage structure and used the S3910/N8560 series switches and rack servers to build a distributed storage network.

  • The solution adopts a three-network separation deployment architecture, so that the storage, service, and management network is kept independent.

  • A distributed storage file system is built by using rack servers that support software-defined storage, with 25G network card servers and switches.

  • Incorporating RDMA technology to achieve lossless Ethernet storage network.

  • The overall network topology is a flat design that allows switches to connect directly to servers and supports Stack or MLAG technology to ensure higher device availability.

  • A dual-link is used between the two devices, configuring the LACP link aggregation protocol. It not only avoids a single point of failure but also has a high degree of flexible scalability.
