As is well-known, fiber cassettes are an essential part of the cable management system, which greatly speeds up the installation time and reduces the complexity of network maintenance and deployment. With the rapid growth of high requirements for high-density network deployment, more and more enterprises are beginning to pay attention to fiber optic cables in data centers. FS also released a range of high-density fiber cassettes for better network wiring systems in data centers.

FS Fiber Cassette Basic Guide

Fiber cassettes are usually used for integrating splice solution and fiber patch cords into a compact package, thereby realizing simple access to the adapters and connectors. There are mainly three series of fiber cassettes on FS.com, FHD Series fiber cassettes, FHU Series fiber cassettes, and FHZ Series fiber cassettes.

These three series of fiber cassettes share the same characteristics in some respects, but also differ from each other. For instance, both FHD and FHZ Series fiber cassettes consist of pre-terminated LC connectors, which are used for quick and easy deployment in high-density applications, while also improving rack space utilization and design flexibility. However, FHD Series fiber cassettes also contain SC or MDC adapters. As for FHU Series fiber cassettes, they are usually designed to fit into a 19-inch-wide telecommunications rack, allowing 96 fiber connections to be deployed in one rack unit (1U) without additional support infrastructure, making them ideal for 40G/100G networks.

In most cases, all these fiber cassettes are interconnected with high-density fiber optic cable assemblies for quick connection of remote or data center applications. Besides, they are also suitable for building backbones and enterprise applications.

Features of FS Fiber Cassette

Despite some unique characteristics, FS fiber cassettes generally share some common features.

High Compatibility

Compatibility between network devices typically plays an essential role in a network deployment. With high compatibility, redundant accessories in network infrastructures can be reduced. FS fiber cassettes are available in single mode OS2 and multimode OM3/OM4 performance, which can provide a variety of options for different application scenarios. Besides, the cassettes are compliant to all types of FHD fiber enclosures and panels, allowing users to achieve high-performance network connectivity with the existing devices.

Low Insertion Loss

When it comes to the insertion loss of network devices, it's well-known that less is better. In addition to high compatibility, FS fiber cassettes also feature ultra-low insertion loss. For instance, most FS FHD fiber cassettes have an insertion loss of 0.35dB, allowing for much longer link distance transmission at better performance. What's more, the cassettes can improve channel link loss performance by reducing overall insertion loss and low channel-to-channel variability, thus realizing high density and performance connectivity.

Color Coding System

The increasing number of cables in network deployment makes it difficult to identify different cables, thus affecting cable management and maintenance. Therefore, it's necessary to use a color coding system to simplify the complexity of cable management. FS fiber cassettes follow a set of color identification schemes based on the TIA-598-D standard, which can provide customers and network operators with better cable management options while simplifying troubleshooting and identification without interfering with other workloads.

Quick Connection and Deployment

One of the most distinct advantages of fiber cassettes is that they can simplify the complexity of cable management, thus speeding up installation time and saving labor costs. FS fiber cassettes are equipped with Plug-N-play modules, enabling fast installation of multiple fiber optic links. Moreover, fiber cassettes also allow snap-in installation without any tools, which is 90% faster than field-terminated installation. Therefore, quick network deployment and improved reliability can be achieved easily with FS fiber cassettes.

Multi-functional Solutions

To meet various requirements of customers, FS provides different kinds of polarity configurations on fiber cassettes which are available for all linking methods. As we all know, mismatches between transceivers may lead to problems like shutdowns. Therefore, it's essential to make sure that the transmitter at one end is matched to the corresponding receiver at the other end during network connectivity and installation. FS fiber cassettes with multi-functional solutions can help enterprises manage and optimize network connectivity very well.

Conclusion

In conclusion, FS fiber cassettes, featured with high compatibility, low insertion loss, and rapid deployment, can provide network operators and enterprises with a variety of options to meet their different demands for high-density network deployment and cable management in data centers.
