Jul. 12th, FS News - FS, a global networking solution provider for data centers, enterprises and Internet access networks, introduced the first batch of its 400G products, responsive to the soaring bandwidth demand and data center traffic. The products include QSFP-DD to QSFP-DD direct attach cables and QSFP-DD to 8x SFP-DD direct attach breakout cables.

QSFP-DD stands for Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density. As the name suggests, this form factor is similar to current QSFP, but with an additional row of contacts providing for an eight-lane electrical interface. Compared to traditional single or four-lane interface, the new design can increase the bandwidth, channel capacity and port density. Defined by the QSFP-DD MSA Group, this form factor addresses the need for high-density, high-speed networking solutions in a module host that’s backwards compatible with QSFP+, QSFP28 and QSFP56.

The first introduced FS 400G direct attach cables come with multiple choices in length and are compatible with Arista and generic devices, as shown in the table below. QSFP-DD to QSFP-DD direct attach cable, for example, can realize the straight connection between two pieces of 400G equipment. QSFP-DD to 8x SFP-DD direct attach breakout cable allows for 8x 50G breakout interconnection.

QSFP-DD, the latest advances in networking technology, is highly favored by the public. It is expected that QSFP-DD will become the de facto standard for 400G just as other QSFP form factors have done so at 40G and 100G, and is promising to lead the pack in 400G applications such as data center interconnects.
