The surge in data demand for streaming media and mobile broadband has propelled advancements in network switching infrastructure. The shift from copper to fiber as the standard and the increasing number of fibers needed for high-speed connections have created a need for higher density fiber solutions. This trend drives the development of compact and simplified cable management systems to accommodate the growing fiber count requirements.

Fiber enclosure, or fiber splice box, as a necessary fiber cable management component, is widely used in data centers to house, organize, manage and protect fiber optic cables. These enclosures are available in various configurations, including rack mount enclosure, wall mount enclosure, and indoor or outdoor enclosure. Among these configurations, fiber rack mount enclosures are widely preferred and commonly used in data centers.

Rack Mount Fiber Enclosure

What Is Rack Mount Fiber Enclosure?

The rack mount fiber enclosure typically consists of a sturdy metal or plastic enclosure with multiple slots or panels to accommodate fiber adapter panels or cassettes. The fiber rack mount enclosure is made for 19-inch rack mounting and comes in rack units of 1U, 2U, 4U, or more rack units depending on the number of connections required. A 1U space typically accommodates four FHD® series cassettes or fiber adapter panels and up to 96 fibers. 2U rack mount fiber enclosure supports 8 x FHD® fiber adapter panels or 8 x FHD® MPO/MTP® cassettes (up to 192 fibers), while the 4U supports 12 x panels or cassettes (up to 228 fibers). The following sections will introduce FS FHD® fiber rack mount enclosure.

FS FHD® Rack Mount Fiber Enclosure Types

FS offers a range of FHD® rack mount enclosures that are universally compatible with all FHD® fiber cassettes and patch panels. These enclosures differ in their applications. For instance, if a sliding enclosure is required, customers can opt for a sliding variant. Depending on specific usage requirements, users have the flexibility to choose different enclosures. The following provides an overview of the various types of rack mount enclosures.

Modular Enclosure

FHD® modular fiber enclosure rack mount is specifically designed to accommodate up to 4pcs of FHD® series cassettes or fiber adapter panels within a compact 1U space. It offers the unique advantage of front and rear-mounting capabilities, along with convenient access for efficient cable management.

Fixed Enclosure

FHD® fixed fiber enclosure rack mount has undergone an upgrade to enhance operational simplicity. The latest generation features a tool-less removable top cover, allowing for more convenient cable management.

Sliding & Tilt-down Enclosure

FHD® sliding & tilt-down fiber enclosure rack mount offers easy access to fibers through a sliding, tilt-down drawer while rear cable management maintains proper slacking and spooling. This enclosure serves as a transition from backbone cabling to distribution switching, an interconnect to active equipment, or as a cross-connect or interconnect in a main or horizontal distribution area.

Sliding Enclosure

FHD® sliding fiber enclosure rack mount is designed to securely house, organize, manage, and protect fiber optic cables, fiber panels, fiber cassettes, and splices. Its sliding drawer allows for convenient front access, ensuring maximum accessibility to fiber connections. This enclosure serves as an ideal solution for cross-connect or interconnect applications in main or horizontal distribution areas.

Blank Enclosure

FHD® blank enclosure rack mount is specifically designed for easy installation within standard EIA 19" rack rails. The enclosure features a snap-in and pull-out design, allowing cassettes or panels to be quickly installed, moved, added, or changed with great convenience. Its detachable design provides multiple options for various applications, including patch panels, plastic D-rings, lacer panels, and lacer bars. Additionally, this horizontal cable management panel effectively safeguards cables from snags and potential damage.
