Video surveillance cable deployment is very critical in the video surveillance industry. The reason is that there is signal attenuation during the video transmission, resulting in problems such as brightness and color distortion, and loss of clarity. Today, the video surveillance industry has entered a stage of modernization and maturity, and digital integration, high-definition, and intelligence are the technical development directions, which means that it is urgent to solve the above problems. So, how can copper wire or optical cable solve the problem of digital security video surveillance transmission? Here's the answer for you.

The Evolution of Security Video Surveillance

As we all know, the security video surveillance system is an important part of the security technology prevention system. It is an advanced comprehensive system with strong prevention capabilities, but it also depends on the correct deployment of video surveillance cables. Its characteristics are mainly visualization, a large amount of image information, rich information resources, and high accuracy. In terms of technology, the security video surveillance system has developed towards digital integration, high definition, and intelligence.

  • Integration refers to chip integration and system integration. The chip is developed into a system integrated chip, and the product is miniaturized. System integration is the integration of hardware and software systems.

  • High-definition refers to the requirement for high-resolution video. High definition is the development direction of video surveillance systems from network to intelligent, improving the accuracy of intelligent video analysis.

  • The real meaning of an intelligent video surveillance system is the ability for machines to analyze video (automatically understand) and process it. The system moves from visual interpretation (visual reading) to machine interpretation (machine reading), which is exactly what digital video surveillance systems need to achieve.

From this, it can be seen that image or video processing and transmission are the keys to the field of digital video surveillance system. Many factors limit the video transmission process, such as choice of copper or fiber, cable transmission rate, maximum transmission distance, and more. Hence, it is very critical to choose the correct security video surveillance cables for short and long distance transmission.

Digital Security Video Surveillance Cable Solutions

The security video surveillance transmits data mainly by selecting copper cables and optical fiber cables. Copper and coaxial cables offer moderate reliability but limited capacity. Fiber optics are relatively more reliable. Here are solutions for security video surveillance cables.

Video Surveillance Copper Cable Solutions

In copper cable systems, twisted pair cables, commonly known as Ethernet cables, can be used for short-distance deployment of video surveillance cables for short distances. For example, Cat5 and Cat6 cables are usually used for vertical trunking, horizontal wiring, equipment connection, etc.

According to the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard, the maximum transmission distance on unshielded twisted pair cables is 100 meters. If you need to extend the transmission distance, you should add signal amplifiers or switching devices at the relevant nodes to achieve long-distance transmission. The figure below is an Ethernet video surveillance cable solution.

The longest transmission distance supported by Ethernet is 500 meters, which means that only four switches can be deployed. The long-distance transmission of the Ethernet video surveillance cable will increase the equipment cost, and the later equipment maintenance, upgrade, and expansion or other related work costs also need to be considered.

Video Surveillance Optic Fiber Cable Solutions

The transmission distance of optical fiber cable is longer than that of Ethernet cable. When the transmission distance of video or data exceeds 100 meters, it is generally preferred to use optical fiber cable to deploy the network. Optical cable has strong performance in image processing and transmission, and there will be no signal loss during transmission, and low video resolution or other problems. In addition, the application of fiber optic cabling for video surveillance cables can solve the problem of copper cable deployment requiring many signal amplifiers. The figure below is in the video surveillance optical cable solution.

The high performance of optical fiber cables in long-distance video surveillance transmission is unquestionable. Although they have a strong anti-interference ability, simple cabling, and easy expansion, the equipment cost is relatively high and completes the deployment through special equipment. Moreover, the long-distance construction and after-maintenance of optical cables are relatively difficult. Generally, fiber optic cables are usually applied for large-scale video surveillance cable deployment or long-distance monitoring signals.

Summry

Digital video surveillance technology will fundamentally change the face of video surveillance, and security technology will also develop to a new stage. The clarity of pictures and videos is very critical for digital security monitoring systems, but it is also necessary to select the appropriate video surveillance cable solutions for data transmission according to the actual situation, to achieve the best monitoring effect.
